| | Career
coaching is tailored to a client's need and circumstances. Here are some
of the reasons my clients have decided to work with me:
 |
"I feel like
I'm drifting and wasting my life. I'm not sure what my life purpose is
and I certainly don't feel connected to it." |
 |
"My
job sucks the life out of me." |
 |
"I'm
bored -- is there anything else out there?" |
 |
"I'm
stuck." |
 |
"My
talents are wasted in my job. Isn't there anything better for
me?" |
 |
"Help!
I've suddenly been downsized (or forced to retire). What do I
do?" |
 |
"I'm
tired of working in toxic work environments. Is there anything out
there where I'll be happy?" |
 |
"I'd
like to find some work where I'll feel appreciated and valued." |
 |
"I'm
feeling OK in my job right now . . . but I anticipate I'll be ready to
change jobs soon -- I just don't know what I'd like to do
next." |
 |
"I'd
like to get promoted within my organization. I need some help to make
a promotion more of a possibility for me." |
 |
"I'd
like to start my own business but I'm not sure how to make it a
reality." |
Career coaching begins with the client's goal -- the reason they are seeking
career coaching. Often we begin with a client's life purpose, work values,
and interests. I then work with the client on identifying their life
purpose and options for how that might be expressed in a career. This can
be uncovered through the client's own desires and intuition as well as a series
of assessments. We then identify ways to create and attract (rather
than chase after) career opportunities -- whether it be working for another
organization, not-for-profit, or starting a business. As a recognized
facilitator of the Life BluePrint™ process, I assist you identifying career options
AND help you make your desired career a reality. For clients who are clear on their next career move, we can
also focus on creating a résumé that commands attention as well as honing
interviewing, networking, and job-hunting skills.
Specific coaching services are tailored to the
needs of each client. Depending on
client need, those services may include:
|
Assessment: |
A variety of assessments are available to the
client, including self-assessments on work values, skills, and interests
as well as MBTI Career
Assessment. A client may choose to work
through the Life BluePrint™ process to become clear on a life or career
direction and take steps toward making that a reality. For
those interested in improving their promotability, job shadowing and
assessments on workplace interaction styles are also available. |
|
Life
BluePrint™: |
A
Life
BluePrint™ answers the question, "What's
next?" It is a process designed to
bring clarity to life purpose, how it can be expressed, career options,
and ways to make that career a reality. It also identifies a
client's limiting beliefs about what is possible in a career. For
example, a client may have a limiting belief or fear that if they do what
they want to do, they won't be able to earn enough money to make a
living. These limiting beliefs are core to what makes us feel stuck
and miserable. |
| Résumé
& Interviewing: |
Clients may elect to receive
feedback on a current résumé, ways to tailor the résumé for a specific
job or career, or guidance on how to create a résumé that commands
attention. Clients may also practice their interviewing skills, get
feedback on their interviewing skills, and/or receive tips for effective
interviewing. |
|
Coaching: |
Weekly
or bi-weekly coaching sessions are focused on the client’s goals and
needs.
These sessions typically take place over the phone to make them
most convenient for the client.
Weekly telephone sessions are typically scheduled for 30 minutes
each. |
|
Fieldwork: |
Between
coaching sessions, the client is asked to undertake one or more
assignments.
This fieldwork is designed to help the client make progress
toward his or her career goal and/or improve their on-the-job performance. |
| Job
Shadowing: |
Job
shadowing is available to clients who wish to focus on their workplace
interaction style, improve their relationships with others in the
workplace, or become more effective on-the-job. |
|
Development
Diary: |
The
client may choose to document his or her experience with the fieldwork and
coaching sessions in a Development Diary.
The Development Diary helps the client document his or her
accomplishments, identify successes and areas they would like to further
develop, and identify questions to bring to the next coaching session.
It also documents a client’s progress during the entire coaching
period. |
|
Ongoing
Support: |
Clients
may choose one or more resources for ongoing support during (and after)
coaching.
Support may come in the form of e-mail support from the coach as
well as resources and referrals to other career professionals and
organizations. |
